A Walking School Bus Network Meeting

Week 4, Term 3

Dear parents/caregivers,

If you are interested in starting a walking school bus at SPS it would be a great idea to attend this network meeting about walking school buses with other parents in Auckland.
The meeting will be held at the Fickling Convention Centre in the Waikowhai Room, 546 Mt Albert Road, Three Kings at 10.30am-12.00pm.

Our Travelwise Plan has LAUNCHED!

Week 9, Term 2

This week has been a very busy Travelwise week at SPS as we launched our Travelwise Plan today with special guests from the Auckland City Council and... Prestige Dance Crew!

Our goal is to ensure students travelling too and from school do so in a better and safer way! From now on students that enroll at SPS will receive our Travelwise plan pamphlet and all teachers will have a larger version displayed in their classroom!

Our Travelwise ambassadors also attended the Travelwise Celebration at the CLOUD! They were all very excited to be in the big city and try out the different stations that were set up by the Auckland City Council.

We were very excited to meet ERIN SIMPSON from the Erin Simpson Show!

Super Scoot Skills

Week 9, Term 2

Yesterday we had our very first Scoot Skills day. There were two trainers that came in to teach us safety skills of riding a scooter. We learnt how to use the break, stop at drive ways for cars, how to cross the road safely on a scooter and the basics of how to ride a scooter.

We all had so much fun! Here are some photos of students in the Year 3 group that were selected.

Longford Street Changes

Week 7, Term 2

The parallel parking on Longford Street is complete! This means that there are less parking spaces to reduce traffic on the busy road when the rush hour happens after school.
The problem with traffic we have is from 8.30-8.55am and 2.30-3.00pm when everyone is trying to drop off and pick up students.
We hope this encourages you all to think about student safety and park up at Bean, Keate or Rayma Place! Give it a go! There is a walkway that leads straight into school for your child to walk from!

The new parallel parking

We also have a new footpath for students to walk straight up the walkway

A new fence to hang our very own banner on!

PARKING WARDENS

This week the parking wardens have been out on Longford Street. Just a reminder the parking in front of school on Longford Street is only a 5 minute parking so be warned, they might just ticket you. The best option would be to park up on Bean, Keate or Rayma Place where there are lots of free parking spaces!

Slow down around schools

Week 5, Term 2

When you're picking up students from roads around SPS make sure you SLOW DOWN and watch for students crossing. Longford Street is still getting congested at 2.45pm which we are trying to reduce. There are other options like parking up at Bean Place, Rayma Place and Keate Place.

Last term our inquiry was based around road safety and Travelwise. Here is a letter from the Mayor of Auckland replying to one of our students' letters regarding the alley-way leading up to Rayma Place from Longford Street. It is easy access for students to walk to and from school when they are being dropped off - it also reduces traffic on Longford Street.

Great to see that the action is taking place!
