Back to School Campaign

Week 3, Term 4

As the year is drawing to an end there is still lots we can achieve! Last week the Travelwise Team started the Back to School Campaign encouraging drivers to slow down around our school.
Remember, If you want to avoid traffic we encourage you to park up at Rayma Place and Bean Place because there is plenty of space! The weather is getting warmer so it would be a great opportunity to walk up our new and improved walkway!

Reminder: New Child Restraint Law Change

Week 2, Term 4

This is a reminder about the new child restraint law that begins next week on the 1st of November! So make sure if you are carrying your child as a passenger in the car they need to be in an approved child restraint up to their seventh birthday. However, regardless of age, school children are safest in a booster seat until they are 148cm tall.

Keep our kids safe!

Law Change for Booster Seats: 1 November 2013
From 1 November 2013 the law is changing – all children must use an approved booster seat until their 7th birthday.
If there is a booster seat available in the vehicle children are also required by law to use this until their 8th birthday. The driver of the vehicle is responsible to make sure all children travelling with them are correctly secured.
Information about the law change can be found at

Walkers get FREE Breakfast!

Week 8, Term 3

This week the Travelwise team handed out a free breakfast to all the walkers down the Rayma Place walkway. We had around 30 students and some parents use the walkway leading into school! It was great to see students being active and have a ticket ready from using the walkway prior to the day.

Don't forget to keep using the walkway up to Rayma Place to keep Longford Street free from traffic!

Leah was all smiles walking down the alleyway!

Stop! Look! Listen! Think!

Week 6, Term 3

Make sure if your child is walking to school that they know how to cross the road safely. They need to...

STOP!

For cars

LOOK!
Both ways for any traffic

LISTEN!
To hear if any traffic is coming

and
THINK!
About whether it is safe to cross or not

If students are crossing at the Mt Wellington Highway they must use the traffic lights. Remember our road patrols are out before school at 8.30-8.55am and after school at 2.45-3.00pm.

Our Travelwise Plan has LAUNCHED!

Week 9, Term 2

This week has been a very busy Travelwise week at SPS as we launched our Travelwise Plan today with special guests from the Auckland City Council and... Prestige Dance Crew!

Our goal is to ensure students travelling too and from school do so in a better and safer way! From now on students that enroll at SPS will receive our Travelwise plan pamphlet and all teachers will have a larger version displayed in their classroom!

Our Travelwise ambassadors also attended the Travelwise Celebration at the CLOUD! They were all very excited to be in the big city and try out the different stations that were set up by the Auckland City Council.

We were very excited to meet ERIN SIMPSON from the Erin Simpson Show!
